We are back! MYNA Rugged is a four-day journey into the heart of California's Eastern Sierra backcountry. Built for youth seeking a real physical and spiritual challenge, this year's trek takes us deep into the mountains for time to disconnect, reflect, and grow β€” together.

You'll traverse beautiful alpine trails and find powerful moments of stillness, prayer, and stargazing beneath some of the darkest skies in the country. While the trek covers serious ground, it's designed to be achievable for any participant with a positive attitude and a spirit of adventure.

Overall Trip Logistics

  • The trip will take place from Friday, August 14 through Sunday, August 16.

  • The group will travel from Bishop, California, to the trailhead on Friday afternoon.

  • We expect to arrive at the trailhead between approximately 3:00 and 4:00 p.m.

  • Depending on the final permit and itinerary, the group will either begin hiking Friday afternoon or camp near the trailhead before beginning the hike.

  • The group will hike and camp on Friday and Saturday.

  • On Sunday, the group will begin hiking early, with the goal of returning to the vehicles by approximately 12:00 p.m.

  • After the hike, the group will stop for lunch in Bishop before beginning the return trip.

  • All times are estimates and may change based on permits, the final route, trail conditions, hiking pace, and traffic.

  • Final details will be shared with registered participants once permits and the itinerary are confirmed.

Transportation Guidelines

Participants will choose one of the following transportation options during registration.

Option 1: Transportation With the Group

Friday Departure

  • Meet in Los Angeles at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.

  • The group will depart at approximately 9:00 a.m.

  • Expected arrival in Bishop is between approximately 2:00 and 3:00 p.m.

  • The group will then continue together from Bishop to the trailhead.

Sunday Return

  • The group is expected to return to Los Angeles between approximately 5:00 and 7:00 p.m.

  • Return timing may vary depending on the hike, lunch stop, trail conditions, and traffic.

  • Participants should not make plans that depend on an exact Sunday return time.

Flying In for Group Transportation

These flight requirements apply only to participants who select transportation with the group.

  • Participants must indicate on the registration form that they are flying in and using group transportation.

  • Friday arrival flights must be into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

  • Flights must arrive by 7:30 a.m. on Friday.

  • Participants may arrive Thursday night, but lodging and related expenses will not be provided.

  • Participants arriving Thursday night may be connected with one another to coordinate lodging or local transportation at their own expense.

  • Sunday departure flights should be scheduled for after 6:00 p.m.

  • Hollywood Burbank Airport may be available for Sunday departures because it is along the return route. Any Burbank drop-off must be coordinated in advance and will depend on the final return schedule.

Option 2: Meeting the Group Independently

  • Participants who do not select group transportation are responsible for getting themselves to and from Bishop, California.

  • This applies whether they are driving, carpooling, or flying into another airport and arranging their own transportation.

Friday Meeting

  • Plan to meet the group in Bishop between approximately 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

  • The exact meeting location and confirmed time will be sent to registered participants.

  • Participants must arrive on time and be ready to continue with the group to the trailhead.

Sunday Pickup

  • Participants must arrange their own pickup or transportation from Bishop between approximately 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

  • The exact pickup time cannot be guaranteed because it will depend on when the group completes the hike.

  • Participants and anyone picking them up should remain flexible and available for timing updates.
