HIRA Intensive 2020
June 28-July 19 at the Insight Institute of Neurosurgery and Neuroscience in Flint, Michigan
Welcome to a revolutionary idea, one revolutionary perhaps only because the youth have not had access to it for some time it seems, but one as old as the Deen itself. Throughout time, Prophets have taken time to meditate and contemplate the meaning of this world. Scholars have taken time to leave society for a small time, study and learn, and then come back to help their people.
There is the specific example of Hira. Hira is the cave that our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) meditated in to understand his place in the universe, who Allah is, and where he received the first revelation of “Iqra” – Read.
And so we invite you to a 21st century, American-Muslim version of that cave. Come here, and in the company of your peers, all of them striving on the same path as you, read. Read, like our Prophet was commanded to, about what Allah says and how that plays into the world around our lives and us. Discuss with scholars, teachers, artists, entrepreneurs, about how they make a mark on this world while retaining their Islam, and be inspired to make your own. Meditate, as the Prophet did, on this universe, God, and yourself.
And remember, the Prophet left Hira, and went on to change the world. God willing, you will leave our cave and do the same.
What is HIRA?
The HIRA Institute is MYNA's educational retreat. It is meant for MYNA youth ages 15-19 who are seekers of knowledge, self improvement and service. The Beloved Prophet (S) retreated to the Cave of Hira as a place of solitude to reflect upon himself and build his relationship with his Creator. In the same light, Hira Intensive is MYNA’s educational retreat that calls upon youth to dedicate time towards strengthening their mind, body, and soul through a deeper understanding of the foundations of faith.
Engaged over a 3 week program, youth will be exposed to world renowned scholars and teachers. These teachers will provide students with a framework for a deeper understanding of the Islamic Sciences, experiential training, course practicums, critical thinking methodologies and collective planning.
Spiritual development: This includes the study of aqeedah (creed, theology), fiqh (interpretation of law), Quranic sciences, the Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) and cultivating our personal habits to align with the best practices of the spiritual path.
