Who is Sarah Baig?
Just one of the six siblings and three cats in her large family, 14-year-old Sarah Baig is always busy. Sarah and her family spend a big chunk of their time at their local mosque, the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS). There, Sarah is involved in the ADAMS Beat choir (the first Muslim choir in America) as well as the ADAMS girls’ basketball team. On the weekends, the Baig family spends their time doing community service, whether it be giving blankets to the homeless in DC or packing food to send to the poor.
Along with the community service she is involved in, Sarah loves MYNA. Sarah has been to four MYNA camps so far, and tries to be as involved as she can. Sarah recently got a place as subcommittee finance chair and is always trying to raise money for MYNA. In regards to photography and filmmaking, Sarah’s’ two passions, she says, “I get to be creative in a different way and I can tell stories by just one click of a button.”
Sarah lives by the Ayah from the Qur’an, “Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear” (2:286). This helps her remember that she can get through anything, no matter how difficult it may be. To Sarah, success is achieving her desired aims and goals, and in the future, she aspires to get into a good college and make her parents proud. “I want to leave a mark on the world. I want to be known for something important before I leave.”
