Homemade Tiramisu Recipe

12 in. by 9 in. baking pan

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 2 tubs cool whip (8 oz.)
  • 1 philadelphia cream cheese (12 oz.)
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 ½ cup milk
  • 2 boxes of nilla wafers (11 oz.)
  • 2 tablespoons of ground coffee *
  • 1 cup water

*up to bakers decision depending on desired strength of coffee taste.

How to make:

Making the filling

Step 1: Separate all 6 yolks from the egg whites  (egg whites won't be used in this recipe)

Step 2: Place yolks, milk and sugar in a small cooking pot and heat on medium until it becomes a paste, stir occasionally to prevent the mixture from sticking to the bottom of the pan.

Step 3: Place the paste aside, let cool.

Step 4: Once the paste has cooled to room temperature, blend with cool whip and philadelphia cheese to create the filling. Blend until the mixture is smooth.

Step 5: Place the freshly made filling aside.

Laying down the wafers

Step 1: Mix ground coffee and water in bowl (used as coating for wafers)

Step 2: Dip wafers one at a time into the liquid coffee for no longer than 2 seconds and place in the pan to cover up as much space as possible (do not leave wafers in the coffee mix too long or they will become soggy)

Step 3: Cover the wafer layer with the sweet filling you created earlier, leaving no empty spots

Step 4: Repeat step one if liquid coffee runs out

Step 5: Repeat step 2 and 3 until pan is full, alternating with wafer and filling layer each time. (always ending with the filling on the very top)

Step 6: Garnish however you seem fit. (coffee beans, varied chocolates, sprinkle ground coffee)

Step 7: refrigerate overnight to let the tiramisu set
