The Charter of the
Muslim Youth of North America
Article I: Name and Headquarters
The organization shall be called the Muslim Youth of North America, herein after referred to as MYNA. MYNA shall be a self-managed program of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), and shall work directly with the ISNA Youth Programming and Services Department (YPSD). All MYNA, Majlis Youth Committee (MYC), and YPSD financial and operational activities are solely owned by ISNA.
Article II: Principles, Mission, and Vision
MYNA shall be an organization for the youth, by the youth. MYNA strives to adhere to the principles, values, and code of conduct derived from authentic Qur’anic and Prophetic Traditions. The aims and purposes of MYNA shall be to serve the best interests of Islam and Muslim youth by actively pursuing its mission and vision.

MYNA’s Mission:
MYNA shall strive to attain the pleasure of Allah (swt) through:
- Providing a platform for youth expression
- Fostering an engaging North American Muslim Culture
- Promoting Islamic principles grounded in Qur’an and Sunnah
- Sparking youth involvement in community development and dialogue
- Establishing a diverse, supportive network of youth in the greater community
B.) MYNA’s Vision: Empowered Youth, with Awakened Minds, Inspired Hearts, and Enlightened Actions.
Article III: Constituents and Leadership
All participants, constituents, and leaders of MYNA should be between the ages of 12 and 18. MYNA believes that every Muslim youth qualifies to benefit from the MYNA experience and services regardless of their level of religiosity, involvement in their community, or organizational affiliation. MYNA officers must be 12 to 18 years of age as of July 1 of the new term. The new term will begin on the first day of the Summer National Retreat.

The constituent members eligible to vote or be elected shall be composed of the following:

MYNA Executive Committee (EC) Members

Members of National Committees

Regional Executive Council (REC) Members

MYNA Representatives

MYNA Chapter Presidents

National Event Chairs

Article IV: Organizational Structure
The Executive Committee is MYNA’s highest level of leadership. The six elected members of the EC shall serve one-year terms.

The six EC positions include:
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Events & Conferences
- Public Relations

With input from all of MYNA’s constituents, the EC shall be the main decision-making body for MYNA. In order for decisions to be made, Quorum must be established:
- Quorum shall be minimum two-thirds of the EC
- Any decision made must be approved by more than one-half of Quorum
- In the event of a tie, the President shall serve as tiebreaker
- All decisions shall be approved by the MYC
C.) The previous President of the EC shall serve as an Ex-officio (non-voting)
member to participate in all EC meetings to ensure smooth transition and
continuity.
The MYNA National Committees provide a support system for all of MYNA’s constituents. Each Committee is chaired by an appointed EC member and consists of various committee members serving one-year terms. In the event of the formation of a new committee, a designee of the EC’s choice may serve as the chair. Taskforces shall be created to undertake specific responsibilities under each National Committee’s job description. Additional committees may be created on an ‘as-needed’ basis by two-thirds vote of the EC.

Article V: Majlis Youth Committee
The MYC is the National Advisory Board for MYNA.

Purpose and Responsibilities:

MYNA functions under the oversight of the MYC. Please refer to the MYC Internal Policies and Procedures for full description.

The MYC shall oversee the EC and provide its constituents with the guidance and support they need to carry out their responsibilities.

The MYC shall work with the YPSD Director and ISNA Majlis to help build and develop a fiscal and foundational support system for MYNA.

Article VI: Amendments
Any amendments to Charter must adhere to the following procedures:

Articles I, II, and VI

Any amendment must be proposed by nine-tenths of the constituents, EC, and MYC.

The proposal must then be approved by a nine-tenths vote from the constituents, EC, and MYC.

Articles III-V

Any amendment must be proposed by seven-tenths of the constituents, EC, or MYC.

The proposal must then be approved by a seven-tenths vote from the constituents, EC, and MYC.

All decisions must be in concordance with ISNA Majlis procedures and policies.
